Beautiful and Strong: Majestic and Powerful. MIL SPEC flags are distinctive, and made to last.
Why?
Simple. The United States Government buys only the best and wants the strongest, best looking, most dynamic flying, and distinctive projection of our country. The result of that… is the MIL SPEC U.S. FLAG.
MIL SPEC Flags are made of High-Tenacity, Military Strength nylon. Fly in any wind but durable in a Gale.
It is all in the Military Lock Stitched which ensures that MIL SPEC Flags are the best flying, longest lasting most brilliant color U.S. Flags.
What about a 2-spun polyester flags? Aren't they the longest lasting U.S. Flags?
Many think that purchasing a two-spun polyester "High Wind Flag" is the way to go. The thinking goes… "we'll I'm not in a high wind area: BUT: that means my flag will last even longer".
Let's go back to why the U.S. Military orders MIL SPEC Flags…
First of all: MIL SPEC flags are SPEC'd; and ordered by the Defense Department to last! Whether in the harsh conditions of Iraq and Afghanistan: or the High Sea's of the world.
Second: because they are high-tenacity nylon: MIL SPEC Flags fly and display great: in any kind of wind… Truly representing our country.
Two spun poly2 flags are made to last: but they don't fly well at all: unless you have a "high wind". Otherwise they just lay against the pole.
2-spun polyester is a porous fabric that permits the wind to pass through the surface of the flag; relieving stress on the material. Plus 2-spun polyester looks like cotton - so the colors are dull: not vibrant like in nylon. poly2 gets grungy. Where MIL SPEC Nylon is tight and clean.
MIL SPEC flags lift off the pole in the slightest zephyr and majestically power-though heavy winds with grace: while brilliantly displaying the exact colors of the United States - Old Glory Red, White, and Blue.
2-spun polyester flags may last a little longer then a MIL SPEC flag since they don't fly as often… but polyester-2 in no way looks nearly as good; or fly as well.
So you've heard a MIL SPEC Flags fly the best. WHY?
MIL SPEC Flags are longer. They are "Specified" by the General Services Administration in the dimensions of 1.0 in the Hoist, to 1.9 in the Fly. Typical Commercial Flags are generally 1.0 in the hoist, to 1.5 or 1.6 in the fly.
MIL SPEC 's - more wing - more lift - fly better.
The result is; that in low winds MIL SPEC Flags have more action off the pole. In light to moderate winds MIL SPEC Flags will fly straighter off the pole: and in High Winds MIL SPEC Flags power gracefully, back and forth: where a typical flag flaps rapidly and stiff.
